Música de los ‘60
En los ’60 el rock también caracterizó a la época,
al igual que en las siguientes décadas. Pero en esta, es donde nacen los
míticos grupos que siguen estando presentes, y marcan el inicio de una gran
era. De las derivaciones del rock, encontramos la
gran influencia del rock psicodélico promulgada gracias al movimiento hippie. Y, en cuanto al pop, nace en
este período, pero no alcanza popularidad hasta los 80 con los reyes del pop, Michael Jackson y
Madonna.
In the sixties, the period was also characterized by
rock music, and the same occurred in the following decades. But it was in this
one when the mythical groups, which are still present in our lives, were born.
They set the beginning of a great era. One of the branches of the rock was the
influent psychedelic rock which became popular thanks to the hippie movement.
And it was also here when pop music was born, but it would not achieve success
until the eighties with the king and queen of pop: Michael Jackson and Madonna.
Posterior a The
Quarrymen, encontramos a los Beatles,
cuya verdadera formación la encontramos en 1962 con la unión definitiva de
Ringo Starr en la batería, tras la marcha de Peter Best. En ese año, consiguieron grabar su primer sencillo, Love
me do, logrando una privilegiada situación en la listas de éxitos de Reino
Unido y dando comienzo al fenómeno de
<<beatlemanía>> que los llevó a ser “más famosos que Jesús”.
Este grupo, fue el que causó gran influencia en la época, especialmente en la
juventud, todos querían ser como ellos. Esto se veía claramente reflejado a la
hora de vestir, y en el ámbito musical. Desgraciadamente, su disolución fue en
1970, y en 1980 sufrimos el fallecimiento de John Lenon, y en 2001, el de
George Harrison.
The Beatles were subsequent to The Quarrymen. Their
official beginning took place when Ringo Starr joined the band definitely after
Peter Best left the group in 1962. That year, they recorded their first single,
Love Me Do, which gave them a
privileged position in the hits lists in United Kingdom. It was this way how
the “beatlemania” started and led them to be “more popular than Jesus.” This
group had a big influence during those years, and all wanted to be like them,
especially young people. A clear reflection of this fact was on fashion and the
field of music. Unfortunately, the group was dissolved in 1970, in 1980 the
world cried the death of John Lennon. Two decades later, in 2001, George
Harrison died.

Los Rolling Stones, también nacieron y
tuvieron éxito en esta época, compartiendo protagonismo con los Beatles en Reino Unido, y posteriormente
en el resto del mundo. Esta banda rockera, es la más longeva del género
conservando a sus tres componentes originales, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards y Charlie
Watts.
The Rolling Stones also had their beginning and
success then, sharing relevance with The Beatles in United Kingdom, and in the
rest of the world later. This rock band is the oldest in the style and it is
still formed by the three original members: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and
Charlie Watts.
Hay que
recordar, que los Rolling Stones anunciaron
la semana pasada su próximo concierto, el 25 de junio en Madrid. Tras siete
años, volverán a tocar en España, y por supuesto no me pienso perder este gran
evento del histórico grupo;)
It is necessary to remind that the Rolling Stones
announced their next concert last week, on the 25th of June in
Madrid. After seven years, they will play in Spain once again and there is no
doubt that I won’t miss this event of the historical group ;)
The doors no tuvieron un gran comienzo,
pero gracias a su primer disco en 1967, el single ‘Light my fire’ logró ser el
número uno. En cuanto a sus canciones, revelaban el verdadero significado de <<sexo,
drogas y rock and roll>>. Jim Morrison en un trance de locura en uno de
sus conciertos hasta llegó a enseñar los genitales, lo que le llevó a estar
detenido. Posteriormente, sus canciones se suavizaron, e incluyeron un mensaje
social más profundo para llegar realmente a los sentimientos de las personas.
The Doors had not a lucky beginning, but thanks to
their first CD, launched in 1967, the single Light My Fire reached the top one. Concerning their songs, they
revealed the true meaning of “sex, drugs and rock and roll”. Jim Morrison
committed the folly of showing his genital during a concert, reason why he was
arrested. Later, their songs started to be lighter and included a deeper social
message in order to touch the people’s hearts.
Otros de
los grandes grupos de la época encontramos a The Who, The Animals, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach boys, The
Yardbirds (a este grupo pertenecían en sus comienzos Jimmy Page y Eric
Clapton), y no olvidar The Velvet
Underground, liderada por Lou Reed y John Cale. Y, también pudimos comenzar
a disfrutar de la magia que desprendía Santana al tocar la guitarra.
Others of the most famous groups in the period were
The Who, The Animals, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach boys, The Yardbirds –
the last one was formed by Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton – without forgetting The
Velvet Underground, whose leaders were Lou Reed and John Cale. In addition, we
could start enjoying the magic of Santana and his guitar.

En
relación al movimiento hippie de la época,
hay que destacar el surgimiento del rock
psicodélico cuyos verdaderos pioneros fueron Pink Floyd y Jefferson
Airplane. Otro grupo favorito de este movimiento es The Mamas &The Papas, pero tiene un estilo diferente, más
cercano al folk. Y, los miembros del
club del 27, Jimi Hendrix y Janis Joplin tampoco pueden faltar.
The hippie movement makes me to highlight the rise of
psychedelic rock, whose true pioneers were Pink Floyd and Jefferson Airplane.
Other of my favorite groups of this movement is The Mamas & The Papas.
However, they have a different style closer to folk music. And the members of
the 27 Club, Jimmy Hendrix and Janis Joplin could not be forgotten.
Los
cantautores, Bob Dylan y Leonard Cohen, tuvieron su surgimiento en este icónico
período. Sus canciones con letras verdaderamente profundas y reflexivas les hacían
tener un gran espacio, tanto en la música como en la poesía. Estos artistas
eran clientes asiduos del hotel Chelsea, de
Nueva York, al que le dedicaré mi siguiente post, ya que tiene temas
interesantes e históricos que nos ayudan a conocer el ambiente bohemio de la
época. Por último, un dato interesante, ambos tienen un premio Príncipe de Asturias de las letras, Bob Dylan en 2007, y Leonard Cohen en 2011.
The singer-songwriters, Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen
became famous in this iconic period. Their songs, whose lyrics were truly deep,
gave them a big space both in music and poetry. These artists were clients of
the Hotel Chelsea of New York, a place I will write about in my next post,
since it has interesting and historical subjects that help us to know the
bohemian environment of the period. Finally, a curious piece of information:
both Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen won a Prince of Asturias award in literature,
in 2007 and 2011 respectively.

The reggae also had a relevant role in music thanks to
Bob Marley and his group, The Wailers.
La Motown, también cogió forma en los ’60. La
discográfica estadounidense de música negra fue fundada por Berry Gordy a
comienzos de 1959 en Detroit. Por ella han pasado artistas de la talla de
Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations o Jackson 5.
Finalmente,
no podemos dejar atrás a grupos que se crearon al final de la década como Led Zeppelin (trataré más profundamente
este grupo en la siguiente década) y Jackson
5.
Finally, we can’t forget groups created at the end of
the decade such as Led Zeppelin – I will write more extensively about this
group in the following decade – and Jackson 5.
